An absolutely amazing vintage 1940s Italian 2-piece suit from 'A. Ferrero', made from a medium-weight wool diagonal-weave fabric in chocolate brown colour. The jacket has huge fish-mouth lapels, broad, strongly padded shoulders, slim hips, & a shaped waist with attached self tie belt to give a strong silhouette; the front is trimmed with applied mouton fur shield-shaped panels with pockets behind the lower ones, & there is a fur dickie or plastron panel inside the gorge. It fastens with 3 self-covered buttons & is lined with brown crepe de chine. The skirt is slim-hipped & short, as was often the fashion in wartime Europe (it reminds me of photos of French Zazous), cleverly cut with 1 large gore & 1 small, with the seams hidden in the front pleats so that there are no side seams; it fastens at the side with a painted metal 'Riri' zip & hooks on the waistband.

Condition:
In very good to excellent condition with light wear overall - there is a small bald patch on the right bust (arrowed) - the leather backing on the buttons has come unglued - the lining is a bit polished in places - the label is torn in half. The skirt has a tiny repair on the front left thigh (arrowed). Has been carefully hand washed & steamed prior to listing.
