A stylish vintage early 1950s 2-piece skirt suit from 'Arthurs of Maidstone', made from rayon velvet fabric in an olive green colour. The jacket has a shawl collar, medium padded shoulders, Princess seams at the back & a nipped-in waist to give a fitted silhouette, & long sleeves with pointy turn-back cuffs ; it fastens with 3 self-covered buttons & is lined with rustly copper acetate. The 3-gore skirt is cut straight at the front & bias at the back so that it falls in folds; it fastens at the side with a brown metal 'Lightning' zip & hooks & a popper on the waistband.

Condition:
In very good condition with light wear overall & some areas of crushing & scuffs to the velvet pile - on the jacket there is a small bald patch between the bottom 2 buttons (not visible when fastened) - a drawn thread across the upper back - some marks to the lining - on the skirt some scattered white spots on the right front hip - a faint orangey mark on the mid right front which the camera couldn't see. Has been thoroughly steamed prior to listing.
