Exquisite Original Vintage 1930s Dress Sapphire Blue Velvet Bias Evening Gown UK XS

An exquisite vintage 1930s evening gown, very nicely hand made from lustrous sapphire blue silk or rayon velvet. The bodice has a narrow shoulder set, round neck with front wings, ruching down the centre front to create fullness at the bust, & long tapering sleeves with glorious ruched puffed heads into which the wearer's shoulders extend; the 6-gore skirt is long & slightly flared. The dress opens down the back to hip level with self-covered buttons & rouleau loops, & there is a matching belt with self-covered buckle.

All measurements are external, taken with the garment laid flat, to be doubled where appropriate (with approx. metric equivalent). NB the dress is cut on the bias, so has some a little stretch:

Shoulder width seam to seam (the shoulders are intended to extend into the sleeve head: 13 1/2” (34.3cm)
Hips (measured 7 below waist seam): 18 1/2” (47cm)
Sleeve length from shoulder seam to cuff (intended to blouse at the shoulder): 26" (66cm)
Sleeve length from underarm to cuff: 23" (58.3cm)
Sleeve width at bicep: 5" (12.7cm)
Sleeve width at forearm: 4 1/2" (11.4cm)
Cuff opening: 3" (7.6cm)
Bodice length nape to waist seam: 14 1/4" (36.2cm)
Length approx: 52” (133.3cm)

Condition:
In very good condition overall - on close examination there is a small rub or wear line (about 3/4" long) on the skirt front 16" up from the hem, & a pinhead of wear below it 6" up from the hem - 2 tiny snags/scuffs on the skirt left back, 7" up from the hem (see photos) - some feint marks to the hem (more visible on the inside of the fabric - see close ups), & a small mark to the skirt front (see close up). Has been carefully steamed but not laundered or cleaned prior to listing.
