An unusual vintage 1940s American colour block shirt dress by 'Sensibly Young Fashions', made from drapey rayon fabric in a striking purple colour with contrasting dusky pink & mauve on the yoke & cuffs. The bodice has a high round neck, padded shoulders, loose front yoke panel with mock pockets & gold-tone metal stud detailing, 3/4 length sleeves with pointy, studded cuff turn backs, & is darted at the waist; the 8-gore skirt is slightly flared. It opens all the way down the front, with hooks/thread loops at the yoke area, gold-tone mock filigree plastic buttons to the waist, & self-covered buttons on the skirt.

Remember that your body measurements need to be smaller than the garment itself in order to get into it!
Condition:
In good condition overall, with some flaws: - on the yoke, there is faint brown mottling around the centre front & along the bottom edge - a hole by the neck where a stud is missing - 2 tiny holes on the right sleeve, & a few scattered surface snags - some discolouration at the armpits - a faint brown streak on the skirt front - the skirt has been shortened & subsequently let down again at some time, resulting in some tiny holes, snags & stitch marks about 6" up from the hem (the most apparent are circled) - on close examination there are a few faint watermarks or spots on the lower skirt back - the shoulder pads are modern replacements.
