A super, rare vintage 1940s housecoat or dressing gown, made from a rayon jersey fabric with a novelty print of bold floral designs in shades of pink & green on a black background. It has a round neck with self-tie collar band, elbow length sleeves, & the bodice is pleated into the waistband, as is the long, full skirt. It opens most of the way down the front (so that you have to step into it), with self-covered buttons on the bodice & a silver metal "Lightning" zip on the skirt behind a fly front which goes all the way to the hem, and there is a tasselled cord belt at the waist. Although the fabric itself is not heavyweight, the whole garment is quite weighty due to the amount of cloth involved. Sadly the label has been removed from the neck.
Size: Suggested UK XS/S. Shown on a mannequin with a 34" bust & it was a snug fit on the bust. Condition: In very good condition overall - there are 7 small seamed repairs on the skirt back, about 18" up from the hem (arrowed in close up) which are quite well hidden by the pattern - some scattered small surface scuffs & snags which the camera couldn't see - on close examination it can be seen that there is an original printing error near the hem on the right skirt front which appears as a band of dark dots. The waist cord is a modern replacement. Has been carefully hand washed and steamed prior to listing.
