A tremendous reproduction 1940s dress, recently hand knitted from King Cole pure merino wool yarn in blackcurrant purple & using an original 1940s pattern (pattern not included). The bodice has horizontal ribbing, a rounded collar, long sleeves with padded, puffed heads & a small chest pocket; the skirt is A-line with chevron ribbing. There is a diagonal opening on the left front shoulder & also a side opening, both with original gold-tone pressed metal flower shaped buttons, plus a self-tie belt at the back. I commissioned this for myself, but regrettably it came out too big so I only wore it once.

Size: Suggested UK S/M*, Shown on a mannequin with 36" bust, 28" waist, 38" hips. * N.B The sleeves are longer than average. All measurements are external, taken with the garment laid flat, to be doubled where appropriate (with approx. metric equivalent): Bust: 16 1/2" relaxed - 19" fully stretched (42cm - 48.2cm) Waist: 13" relaxed - 15 1/2" fully stretched (33cm - 39.3cm) Hips (measured 7" below waist level): 18" relaxed - 20" fully stretched (45.7cm - 50.8cm) Sleeve length underarm to cuff: 19" (48.2cm). Sleeve length shoulder to cuff: 24 1/2" (62.2cm) Sleeve width at widest point (armpit level): 6" relaxed - 8" fully stretched (15.2cm - 20.2cm) Approx length (nape to hem): 42 1/2" (108cm)
Condition: In excellent condition overall - there are some inconsistencies in the knitting where the wrong stitch has been made, e.g. a purl when it should have been a knit, which appear as slight bumps in the texture (see close-ups). Has been carefully hand washed & steamed prior to listing.
