Vintage 1940s American Ruffle Dress Burgundy Cream Rayon Taffeta UK XS
Vintage 1940s American Ruffle Dress Burgundy Cream Rayon Taffeta UK XS
An exciting vintage 1940s American dress from "Lewis's Specialty Gowns" , made from a rustly rayon taffeta fabric with a micro check pattern in burgundy & cream. The bodice has a plunging V-neckline with multiple pleats into the cummerbund-style front waistband, strong, padded shoulders & short, narrow sleeves; the flared skirt has multiple tiers of gathered ruffles below the yoke & a decorative bustle bow at the rear waist. It opens down the front to hip level, with loops & quarter-sphere burgundy early plastic buttons.
Please study the photographs carefully - they form an important part of the description.
Size: Suggested UK XS - please check measurements below
All measurements are external, taken with the garment laid flat, to be doubled where appropriate (with approx. metric equivalent):
Bust approx: 17 1/2" (44.4 cm)
Waist: 12 3/4" (32.3 cm)
Hips: 17" (43.2 cm)
Sleeve length shoulder seam to cuff: 12" (30.5 cm)
Arm opening at cuff: 5" (12.7 cm)
Length nape to waist seam approx: 15 1/2" (39.3 cm)
Length nape to hem approx: 44" (111.8 cm)
Condition:
In good condition, with light wear overall - there are very subtle watermarks on the shoulders (hard to see due to the slightly iridescent fabric) - faint discolouration under the arms - a few other scattered tiny marks - some fabric strain under some of the buttons where they are sewn on (not visible when worn) - there is some fraying to the edges of the ruffles, as the edges were zig-zag stitched from new rather than being hemmed - a small frayed area (not really a hole) on the top tier, towards the front left (ringed in last photo).
I have a no returns policy - please check the above measurements and compare to a similar garment of your own before buying - no refund offered for items that don’t fit.
