A wonderful 1940s American dress, made from black moss crepe fabric which may be all wool or a wool/rayon blend. It has superb wide shoulders with big pads, a draped high neck with inner pendant weight, and deep pleats below the bust; there are two ruched sections at the front of the slightly-flared skirt - the resulting effect is very dramatic with the strong shoulders & fitted waist. The sleeves are elbow length, and the dress is decorated with black sequins in a curve & bow design on the upper bodice & a false peplum curve on the skirt front. The side & neck back openings are fastened with blackened metal ‘Talon’ zips. There is one thread belt loop (the other is missing) but no belt.

Condition: In excellent condition with light wear overall - there is a small worn patch or snagged area which is just becoming a hole on the right hand side about 9” up from the hem, another tiny snag nearby, & a few tiny catches or pulled threads near the hem below this area. NB. In some photos you can see light spots on the dress which are actually the bolts of the mannequin showing through the fabric, they are not marks on the dress.
