An exceptional, truly wonderful vintage late 1930s dress, very nicely home made from rayon crepe with a textured self-pattern of raised spots in a rich rusty red colour. It has a round neck with gathers all round which are trapped in curved yoke stitch lines on the bodice, and fantastic sleeves which are wide at the top & narrow at the cuff, with deep pleats & open fold-over tops at the heads. The 6-gore skirt is slightly flared, quite slim-hipped, with gathers above the waist seam. The dress fastens at the neck back with 6 self-covered buttons & a popper, has a side opening with popper fasteners, & is lined in the upper bodice with net fabric; there are thread belt loops & a matching popper-fastened belt. Condition: In very good to excellent condition overall - some of the yoke stitching has broken & been repaired in slightly different thread - some wear to the covered buttons - on close inspection there is a small repair & a patch of wear on the back right cuff and a small hole to the front right cuff (see close up), this is quite well hidden by the texture - 2 pin sized holes in skirt only visible when held up to the light - on the inside, the net lining is discoloured & has some tiny holes - there are holes & a small repair on the belt where the poppers have been moved (not visible when worn). Has been carefully hand washed & steamed prior to listing.
