A wonderful vintage late 1930s tunic dress, very nicely home made from satin-backed rayon crepe with an art deco geometric self-pattern in a deep rich rusty red colour & used with both sides out. The bodice has a mandarin collar, feature sleeves which are shirred, puffed & supported at the head and taper into a slim forearm & cuff, and decorative fabric covered buttons down to the waist; the tunic or overskirt is A-line in shape, with a mock opening down the centre front, & the under skirt is a slim straight cut with a front box pleat; the concealed upper part is made from a coordinating plain fabric. The dress opens with concealed metal poppers at the bodice neck and at the side, & there are added thread belt loops but no belt.

Condition: In very good condition overall - there are 2 small areas of surface wear to the front overskirt & 1 to the front waist seam (arrowed); 2 areas of surface wear/snags to the back overskirt (see circled close ups), & 2 watermarks near the side seam (see close up). Looking beneath the overskirt, the seam joining the lining to the skirt has been repaired in a few places (not visible when worn). Has been carefully hand washed & steamed prior to listing.
