A really wonderful vintage late 1930s or 1940s American toque style hat from 'Ames & Brownley, Inc.' of Norfolk, Virginia. Made from a single piece of black felt with squiggly gold soutache decoration overall, cleverly shaped into a sort of collapsed shako & trimmed with a plain black felt 'feather' on the side; it has a petersham sweatband & elastic cord strap to allow perching on the head.
