A really wonderful vintage 1940s jacket, tailor made by 'Nicolls of Regent Street' in 1941 from a fairly heavyweight shepherd check or dogtooth tweed fabric in berry red, blue & natural - on my screen the close-up is most accurate. It has broad peak lapels, strongly padded shoulders, Princess seams at the front, very nipped-in waist, 2 lower pockets with unusual chevron-shaped flaps & 2 mock chest pockets to match; the front fastens with 5 burgundy early plastic buttons, & the cuffs have 3 working buttons (which is quite rare in women's tailoring & a sure sign of quality). Fully lined in dark red crepe de chine, & there are hem weights at front & back.

Size: Suggested UK S. Shown on a mannequin with a 36" bust, 38" hips & it was too snug on the bust & hips (please check measurements below)

Condition:
In very good to excellent condition overall - there is a small, discreet repair to the right sleeve head - a small missing strand near the centre back (both arrowed) - some yellowing on the collar fold - slight wear & yellowing around the cuffs, & 1 cuff button is a replacement - on the inside there is some wear at the neck back & around the hem - the lining has been repaired/extended long ago at the front corners - some scattered marks/watermarks & a few small holes. Has been thoroughly steamed prior to listing but not cleaned.
