A vintage late 1940s or early 1950s dress, home made from a floppy woven rayon fabric made with grey warps & orangey-brown wefts which combine to give a brownish background, with long orangey-red & black horizontal slubs running through. It fastens to the neck with a spread, pointed collar, has a hexagonal ventral panel into which the bodice & skirt are gathered, & long sleeves; the skirt is quite slim, with a rear kick pleat. The dress opens at the front with 2 orangey-red marbled early plastic buttons, with more of the same to decorate the front panel & cuffs, fastens at the side with a replacement metal zip, & has a matching popper-fastened belt with decorative button.

Condition: In very good condition overall - there is surface wear to the inside neck band and underarms - the buttonholes have frayed around the edges - repairs behind the cuff buttons where they have pulled away & been re-sewn - the thread belt loops are beginning to come undone - the inside seams have an unfinished, frayed appearance - on the belt, a small fray along the edge near the fastening, and another by one of the thread fastening loops. Has been hand washed & steamed prior to listing.
