A fantastic vintage 1940s CC41 Utility Scheme labelled overcoat, made by 'Montague Burton' from a thick, hairy tweed wool cloth akin to Harris but not labelled as such in a rare & beautiful rust or ginger brown colour. Cut in a classic double-breasted style with broad lapels, 6 x 3 horn effect button fastening, medium-padded shoulders, 2 flapped lower pockets, & matching belt with leather covered buckle. Fully lined with taupe rayon twill fabric, with an inside breast pocket. Has a brown embroidered 'Burton' label above the inside pocket; unfortunately the paper label inside the pocket has been removed.

Condition:
In very good condition overall, with signs of wear & some minor flaws - there are several discreet repairs, one to the the upper rear left shoulder, two to the rear right skirt, one to the left edge of the rear vent, one to the lower left front skirt, one to the right pocket corner (see close ups) - some scattered small moth grazes to the surface nap (e.g. circled on the shoulder) - some dark marks & a small repair on the lower left pocket (circled) - a few other faint marks - slight discolouration to the back of the collar - a repair to the edge of the belt - scattered marks, small holes & scuffs to the lining. Has been thoroughly steamed & brushed prior to listing but has a dusty, long-stored feel and would benefit from being dry cleaned.
