Vintage 1940s CC41 Double Breasted Overcoat Brown Herringbone Wool Tweed DB Belted UK S
Vintage 1940s CC41 Double Breasted Overcoat Brown Herringbone Wool Tweed DB Belted UK S
A vintage 1940s CC41 Utility Scheme labelled overcoat, made by 'Swallow' from a thick tweed wool herringbone weave cloth in variegated dark brown & natural beige. Cut in a classic double-breasted style with broad peaked lapels, 6 x 3 horn effect button fastening, medium-padded shoulders, 2 flapped lower pockets, & matching belt with leather covered buckle. Fully lined with gold-beige rayon twill fabric, with an inside breast & inside ticket pocket. Has a lovely graphic label of the type more usually fitted to raincoats by this maker; presumably austerity prevented printing a specific one.
Please study the photographs carefully - they form an important part of the description.
NB Cap not included!
Size: Suggested Small / Short, to fit about a 36" chest depending on whether a suit jacket is worn beneath.
Photographed on a 38" mannequin.
All measurements are external, taken with the garment laid flat, to be doubled where appropriate for circumference (with approx. metric equivalent):
Chest - armpit to armpit: 22" (56cm)
Shoulder to shoulder: 19" (48cm)
Shoulder to cuff: 23" (58.5cm)
Armpit to cuff: 16" (40.6cm)
Waist: 22" (56cm)

Condition:
In good but quite well-used condition with signs of wear overall - there is some discolouration, surface wear & loss of nap on some of the high spots & edges - a few small moth nips to the surface (e.g. arrowed on the shoulder) - a discreet repair to the top edge of the right pocket flap which the camera couldn't see - scattered marks & scuffs to the lining - the sleeves have been lengthened long ago & an extra piece added to the sleeve liners - the inside jigger button is missing & the leather on the buckle is a bit dry. Has been thoroughly steamed & brushed prior to listing.
I have a no returns policy - please check the above measurements and compare to a similar garment of your own before buying - no refund offered for items that don’t fit.
