A striking vintage 1940s "Helen Bond" CC41 Utility Scheme labelled shirtwaister dress, made from a drapey linen/rayon blend Moygashel fabric with a baroque novelty print of foliate swirls in burnt orange on a white-with-a-hint-of-blue background. The bodice has a huge pointed collar with ric-rac edge trim, gathers at the shoulders & darts at the waist, short sleeves with turn-back cuffs , & opens to the waist with dark orange early plastic buttons; the bias cut skirt is very flared, with a small box pleat at the centre front & back to create a drape effect. The dress fastens at the side with a silver metal 'Lightning' zip.

Condition: In good condition overall - there are 2 repairs at the right armpit (1 to the body & 1 to the sleeve) which have been done with silk fusible & tiny stitches - an old patch repair to the skirt (circled) - some dark marks beside the zip - some faint marks on the bodice near the 2nd buttonhole up. Has been carefully hand washed & steamed prior to listing.
