A super stylish vintage 1940s jacket made by 'Glenbuie' under the IIOII scheme, from a medium weight diagonal zig zag weave wool fabric in cafe au lait brown & natural with dark brown trim. It has a semi-shawl collar, broad, strongly padded shoulders, pleated waist to encourage draping, smiley welted pockets with arrowhead embroidered corners, side vent slots & long sleeves; it fastens at the waist with a single two-tone early plastic button with more of the same to decorate the cuffs. Fully lined in bronzey satin rayon fabric.
According to a 1946 Board of Trade announcement, the IIOII mark (now commonly known as ‘Dinner Plate’ or ‘Double Eleven’) was used to signify that the garment “Is in the most expensive range of that manufacturer’s non-Utility production, for a manufacturer may use it only if he is using a cloth which is not utility & for which he has paid more than a given price. The mark should not be confused with the Utility mark - CC41”.

Condition:
In excellent condition overall - there are three pale orangey-brown marks (arrowed in close up) - scattered minor snags & pulls to the lining. Has been thoroughly steamed & brushed prior to listing but not cleaned.
