A time-worn, somewhat shabby but characterful vintage 1940s overcoat, made by 'Varsity' from a thick slightly fleecy wool cloth in a textured herringbone weave in dark chocolate brown. It is double-breasted with broad lapels, has medium-padded shoulders with rear-sloping seams, narrow gauntlet cuffs with added leather trim, 2 flapped lower patch pockets, & matching belt with patented 'Jifix' hook buckle. Part lined with brown rayon fabric, with an inside breast pocket.

Size: Suggested Small Regular, to fit about a 36" chest, depending on whether a suit jacket is worn beneath. Photographed on a 38" mannequin.
All measurements are external, taken with the garment laid flat, to be doubled where appropriate for circumference (with approx. metric equivalent):
Chest - armpit to armpit: 23" (58.4cm)
Shoulder to shoulder: 19" (48cm)
Shoulder to cuff: 24 1/2" (62cm)
Armpit to cuff: 17 3/4" (45cm)
Waist: 22 1/2" (57cm)
Back length - base of collar to hem: 46" (117cm)
Condition:
In well-worn, slightly distressed condition with noticeable flaws - there is surface wear & loss of nap the high spots & edges - two wear holes on the right lapel - small splits in both lapel notches - patches of wear & scuffing to both elbows - the leather trim is scuffed & coming loose in places - wear & fraying to the buttonholes, pocket flaps, pocket tops, back seam at the seat area, where there is also a small split, & belt - grime around the collar fold - a few scattered faint marks - on the inside some stains, marks & scuffs to the lining - tears & seam splits at the left armpit, some loose stitching at the right armpit. Has been thoroughly steamed & brushed prior to listing but a faint storage mustiness remains.
