Vintage Mens 1940s 'Guards' Double Breasted Overcoat Coat Blue Grey Wool DB Belted 36"
A superb vintage 1940s overcoat, retailed by B.G. Sweet of Plymouth & made by 'Guards - The Man's Wear' from a thick, slightly fleecy diagonal weave wool cloth in a lovely heathered air force blue-grey colour. It is double-breasted with broad lapels, has quite heavily padded shoulders with rear-slanted seams, gauntlet cuffs, 2 lower patch pockets with flaps, topstitched swelled edges, & matching belt with leather covered buckle. Part lined with grey satiny fabric, with an inside breast pocket.

Size: Suggested Small, to fit about a 36" chest, depending on whether a suit jacket is worn beneath. Photographed on a 38" mannequin.
All measurements are external, taken with the garment laid flat, to be doubled where appropriate for circumference (with approx. metric equivalent):
Chest - armpit to armpit: 23" (58.5cm)
Shoulder to shoulder: 18 1/2" (47cm)
Shoulder to cuff: 25 1/2" (65cm)
Armpit to cuff: 18 1/2" (47cm)
Waist: 22 1/2" (57cm)
Back length - base of collar to hem: 46 1/2" (118cm)
Condition:
In very good to excellent condition, with light wear overall - there are some areas of surface moth grazing towards the front hem (circled) - a few other surface nips which the camera couldn't see - slight discolouration to the collar fold & collar back - some rust marks, snags & discolouration to the lining - the inside jigger button is a bit loose. Has been thoroughly steamed & brushed prior to listing.
