Vintage 1940s 1950s Herringbone Donegal Tweed Sports Jacket Beige Brown Flecked 38"
A vintage late 1940s or early 1950s sports jacket, made by an unknown local tailor (i.e. not quite to Savile Row standards!) from a really lovely Donegal-type herringbone tweed in light brown & natural with neps or flecks in burnt orange & off-white - on my screen the close ups show it most accurately - which has quite a soft handle, not coarse & scratchy like Harris sometimes is. Single breasted 2-button fastening with fairly wide lapels - medium padded shoulders - fitted or suppressed waist - welted breast & lower flapped hand pockets - lined in taupe rayon twill with ivory/blue striped sleeve linings - 1 inside chest pocket. No labels present.
Please study the photographs carefully - they form an important part of the description.
Size: Suggested 38 Regular
Photographed on a 38" mannequin.
All measurements are external, taken with the garment laid flat, to be doubled where appropriate for circumference (with approx. metric equivalent):
Jacket Chest - armpit to armpit: 21" (53.3cm)
Shoulder to shoulder: 17 1/2" (44.5cm)
Shoulder to cuff: 24 1/2" (62.2cm)
Armpit to cuff: 17 1/2" (44.5cm)
Waist: 19" (48cm)
Back length - bottom of collar to hem: 29 1/2" (75cm)
Condition:
In very good condition with light wear overall - the sleeves appear to have been let down at some point as the finishing there is a little crude & the cuff buttons are oddly placed - internally there is seam strain to the lining at the cross back - some staining to the sleeve linings. Has been thoroughly steamed & brushed prior to listing.
I have a no returns policy - please check the above measurements and compare to a similar garment of your own before buying - no refund offered for items that don’t fit.
