An interesting vintage 1950s lighter weight overcoat, bespoke tailored for Captain R H Carr-Ellison in 1951 by the famous 'Rogers & Company' of Jermyn Street from a wool twill Venetian type of fabric in a variegated taupe colour. Cut rather like a Covert coat but without the typical lines of topstitching, with single-breasted fly front, notch lapels, medium padded shoulders, fitted waist, flapped lower pockets, & gauntlet cuff turn-backs. Part lined in satiny fabric, with 2 inside breast pockets. Captain (later Colonel Sir) Ralph Carr-Ellison served in The Royal Dragoons & was subsequently Chairman of Tyne Tees Television & Lord Lieutenant of Tyne & Wear - see attached mini obituary.

Condition:
In good condition overall, with signs of wear & some flaws - there is wear & fraying to the buttonholes & a small hole behind the top button where it has pulled off & been re-sewn - an old reweave to the right sleeve head (arrowed) - some dark marks to the right sleeve head (arrowed) - several further scattered faint marks - a few small surface snags & pulls - faint yellowing to the collar fold - watermarks, scuffs & other marks to the lining & inside facings. Has been thoroughly steamed & brushed but not cleaned prior to listing.
