Vintage 1960s Mens Burton Harris Tweed Plus Fours Suit Bronze Green 40" - 42"
Vintage 1960s Mens Burton Harris Tweed Plus Fours Suit Bronze Green 40" - 42"
A vintage 1960s plus fours suit made by 'Burton' from heavyweight Harris Tweed fabric in an unusual weave in a complex mixture of greens, blues, browns & black resulting in a shade referred to as 'bronze' on the tag - the close-ups show it best on my screen. Single-breasted 3-button jacket with padded shoulders, notch lapels, slightly fitted waist, twin side vents, welted chest & angled, flapped lower hand & ticket pockets, cuffs with 1 decorative button; fully lined in black acetate with ivory sleeve linings. Plus fours are long, full-cut & wide in the leg in a very '30s or '40s style, have double inward pleats, side slip pockets, Lightning zip fly, brace buttons, tunnel belt loops & rare matching self-belt with clip lock buckle, ankle tabs with pre-war type 'Sword' buckles.
Please study the photographs carefully - they form an important part of the description.
Size: Marked 42" on the original sleeve tag, which was found in the pocket, but I would suggest 40" Short to allow room for knitwear.
All measurements are external, taken with the garment laid flat, to be doubled where appropriate for circumference (with approx. metric equivalent):
Jacket Chest - armpit to armpit: 22 1/2" (57cm)
Shoulder to shoulder: 18 1/2" (47cm)
Shoulder to cuff: 23 3/4" (60.4cm)
Armpit to cuff: 16 3/4" (42.5cm)
Waist: 20" (51cm)
Back length - base of collar to hem: 29 1/2" (75cm)
Plus fours waist: 18" (46cm) [about 2" available to let out]
Inside leg: 30" (76cm)
Outside leg: 42" (107cm)
Rise - crotch seam to top of waistband: 14" (36cm)
Leg width at hem: max. 6" 1/2" (16.5cm) unless the buckles are moved.
Condition:
In very good condition overall - the jacket has been worn more than the trousers, which in fact appear unworn & still have traces of the Orb stamp inside, resulting in loss of the fuzzy surface nap which in some light makes the two pieces look slightly different colours. The jacket has a few surface snags, some wear, holes & repair to the lining, mainly at the top of the rear vents & inside the cuff, some wear & discolouration at the armpits. Has been thoroughly steamed & brushed prior to listing.
I have a no returns policy - please check the above measurements and compare to a similar garment of your own before buying - no refund offered for items that don’t fit.
