Vintage 1960s Mens British Rail Drivers 3 Piece Suit Green Wool Serge Uniform 40"
Vintage 1960s Mens British Rail Drivers 3 Piece Suit Green Wool Serge Uniform 40"
A rare vintage mid 1960s British Railways three-piece uniform suit, intended for Diesel Drivers but apparently issued more widely than that on the Southern Region, made by the well-known uniform maker 'H.Lotery' from heavyweight wool serge fabric in a dark Brunswick or bottle green colour. Double-breasted 6 x 3 button basic reefer-style jacket with lightly padded shoulders, quite broad lapels with sewn-on BR embroidered insignia, lower flap pockets; fully lined in black cotton with ivory sleeve linings. Waistcoat with 6 buttons, 3 pockets, backed & lined to match the jacket. Trousers are full cut & quite wide in the leg, with flat front, high-rise fishtail back, braces buttons, side slip pockets, button fly. Jacket fitted with BR double arrow buttons, waistcoat with plain buttons. An unusual piece of railwayana workwear in it's own right, which could easily be de-badged & re-buttoned to make a more civilian outfit.
Shirt & tie not included.
Please study the photographs carefully - they form an important part of the description.

Condition:
In excellent condition overall, apparently issued but never worn as the trousers retain the paper maker's labels - on closer examination the jacket has an area of surface moth nibbling below the right pocket (circled) & another towards the front edge which is hidden when fastened - the waistcoat has been opened down the back seam & elastic strips inserted, which have perished - the trousers have some minor surface grazing which the camera couldn't see. Has been thoroughly steamed & brushed but some storage mustiness remains.
I have a no returns policy - please check the above measurements and compare to a similar garment of your own before buying - no refund offered for items that don’t fit.
