Vintage 1940s Tweed Wool Hacking Jacket Brown Orange Window Pane Checked Riding Coat UK S
A vintage 1940s hacking or riding jacket , made from a heavy-weight tweed (rather like Harris Tweed but not labelled as such) in a rich earthy brown with burnt orange overcheck. It has notched lapels, strongly padded shoulders, fitted waist & long skirt with 2 angled, flapped pockets & a rear vent; the front fastens with 2 marbled early plastic buttons & it is fully lined with brown rayon twill.

Size: Suggested UK S. Shown on a mannequin with a 36" bust and it was too snug on her, best suited to a maximum 34" bust (please check measurements below)
All measurements are external, taken with the garment laid flat, to be doubled where appropriate (with approx. metric equivalent):
Jacket - Bust: 18" (45.7cm)
Waist: 15" (38.1cm)
Width at hem (with back vent closed): 20 1/2" (52.1cm)
Shoulder width seam to seam: 15 1/2" (39.3cm)
Sleeve length shoulder seam to cuff (the pad is about 3/4" thick): 24" (61cm)
Sleeve length underarm to cuff: 18 1/2" (47cm)
Sleeve width at widest point (armpit level): 7" (17.8cm)
Length base of collar to hem: 26 1/2" (67.3cm)
Condition:
In very good condition overall - there are 3 small repairs to the left sleeve (circled) - an area of surface moth grazing to the lower left skirt front (circled) - some scattered surface snags & pulls.
Has been thoroughly steamed prior to listing.
