An outstanding vintage 1930s or 1940s overcoat, made from a tweedy herringbone weave wool cloth in midnight blue & heathered grey tones. It is double-breasted with broad lapels, has medium padded shoulders with a slight pagoda shape & rear-slanted seams, cuffs with huge, pointed tabs, 2 generous lower patch pockets with flaps, topstitched swelled edges, long kick vent, & matching belt with painted cast metal buckle marked 'M E Davies, Walsall'. Fastens with lovely marbled early plastic buttons & part lined with black satiny fabric, with an inside breast pocket. No makers or other labels inside.

All measurements are external, taken with the garment laid flat, to be doubled where appropriate for circumference (with approx. metric equivalent):

Condition:
In very good to excellent condition, with light wear overall - there are some areas of surface moth grazing towards the rear right hem (arrowed) - a few other surface nips which the camera couldn't see - some discolouration to the collar fold, collar back & across the shoulders - a few other faint marks here & there - a few scuffs & marks to the lining - some moth nibbles along the inside edge of the right pocket (circled). Has been thoroughly steamed & brushed prior to listing but a dry clean would help to freshen up after long storage.
