A beautiful vintage 1930s/1940s Italian suit, exquisitely tailored with a wealth of details by 'Sartoria S. Nuterini, Arezzo' from a medium-weight, subtly textured pure wool fabric in very dark blue with black self stripes. The jacket is single-breasted, 2 button with quite heavily padded shoulders, extreme 'hour-glass' fitted waist accentuated by the use of diagonal darts (a feature not commonly seen after the early '30s), wide notch lapels, welted chest & lower pockets, cuffs with 2 decorative buttons; lined in black rayon with off-white striped sleeve linings. Trousers are quite full cut with wide, straight legs, have single outward pleats, attractive wide waistband which tapers towards the back & unusual angled back darts, belt loops, left-hand cash or watch pocket, front pockets with scalloped top-stitching, rear pocket with upward scalloped entry & button fly with internal double-button bearer. In common with many tailored suits, both pieces have subsequently been enlarged from the original size.

Condition:
In excellent condition with light wear overall - on closer examination the jacket has crease marks where the side & back seams have been let out - the jacket lining has some scuffs & faint marks, some stains & wear at the armpits. The trousers waist has been let out to the max, with extra fabric added to the waistband & the lining - on closer examination there are crease marks where the legs have been narrowed & subsequently returned to the original width - some marks & discolouration to the pocket bags & linings. Has been thoroughly steamed & brushed prior to listing but not cleaned.
