A beautifully patinated, timeworn vintage circa 1930s French "Canadienne" mackinaw type double-breasted jacket, made by 'Manufacture Francaise de Vetements et Fourrures' from thick cotton canvas in a mid nutmeg brown colour. It is longer in the body than later examples of this style tend to be, has a generous mouton fur shawl collar, slash hand warmer pockets & flapped lower pockets with leather piped edges, fastens with canvas loops & plastic 'football' buttons which appear to be 1950s replacements, has buttoning cuff tabs, & extra wide matching belt (which is so often missing from these) with double D-ring friction buckle. It is lined in the upper body with thick sheepskin & canvas at the hips; the sleeves are lined with coarse, slightly fleecy speckled brown brushed cotton.

Condition:
In good but well used condition, with overall signs of wear & patina including the following: - appears to have been mostly worn with the collar fastened right up, resulting in fading, wear & balding along the fold, with some other marks & wear, & some repairs to the inside edge - there are scattered marks & marbling, particularly in a line across the back - fade & rubbing to the high spots - some flaking & scuffs to the leather - several character repairs, mostly to the underside of the right sleeve - the top left button is missing - rust to the buckle rings - wear, discolouration, balding, & some seam strain to the fur lining - wear & some fraying to the sleeve lining. Has been steamed & brushed prior to listing.
