A rare vintage 1940s BOAC (British Overseas Airways Corporation) uniform greatcoat, tailor made by 'A. Jacobs' in Baltimore, which was then the transatlantic terminus for flying boats going from the UK to the US. Made from thick wool doeskin fabric in pure black, it is cut very much like British military greatcoats of this period - double-breasted with generous collar & broad lapels, buttoned storm tab under the collar, heavily-padded shoulders with rear-sloping seams, fitted waist, 2 angled lower pockets with deep flaps, long kick vent, & matching belt with leather covered buckle. Fitted with moulded bakelite-type composition buttons with the BOAC griffin crest in relief, fully lined with black rayon fabric, with an inside breast pocket.

Size: Suggested Extra Small Regular, to fit about a 34" chest, depending on whether a suit jacket is worn beneath. Photographed on a 38" mannequin.
All measurements are external, taken with the garment laid flat, to be doubled where appropriate for circumference (with approx. metric equivalent):

Condition:
In very good condition overall, with light wear to the high spots & leading edges - one front button is missing - a few tiny surface moth nips which the camera couldn't see - the lining has some marks, scuffs, small worn spots around the hem & some restitched seams. Has been thoroughly steamed & brushed prior to listing but a faint storage mustiness remains.
