A superb vintage 1940s CC41 Utility Scheme overcoat, made by 'Courtney Clothes' from a thick wool cloth in a bold herringbone check or glen plaid weave in marled shades of stony brown with faint red overchecks. It is double-breasted with broad lapels, quite heavily padded shoulders with slightly roped sleeve heads, 2 flapped lower patch pockets, long rear kick vent, belt loops & belt with leather covered buckle; the original owner has fitted a nice set of leather 'football' buttons to replace the original horn effect plastic ones; these remain as the inside jigger & under the lapel. Fully lined with coppery brown rayon twill fabric, with an inside breast pocket. The CC41 label has been removed but there is a sliver in the seam & tell-tale stitch marks showing the outline; the cutter tag also shows the utility fabric reference number X.227B.

Condition:
In very good to excellent condition with light wear overall - there is faint discolouration on the collar back & across the shoulders - a scattering of small repaired moth nips on the bottom front corners (circled in close ups) which are quite well disguised by the weave - the original owner has slightly shortened the hem - the lining has a few scattered scuffs, snags & marks, and a patch of wear & fraying by the kick vent (see close up). Has been thoroughly steamed & brushed prior to listing.
