Vintage Mens 1940s Double Breasted Overcoat Coat Black White Grey Donegal Tweed Wool 38" Extra Long
A vintage 1930s or 1940s overcoat in a rare extra-long fitting, most likely of German or Austrian origin, made from a Donegal tweed type of wool cloth in marled black & off-white with scattered multicoloured neps or flecks; depending on the light it varies between a bluish or greyish cast. It is double-breasted with 6 buttons, has broad lapels, heavily padded shoulders, scalloped yoke on front & back, a fairly straight cut body, notched gauntlet cuffs, & 2 large flapped lower patch pockets; all enhanced by double rows of top-stitching on the seams & edges. Fully lined with grey rayon twill fabric, with 2 inside breast pockets; no labels present.
Please study the photographs carefully - they form an important part of the description.
Size: Suggested Medium, Extra-long fitting, to fit about a 38"/40" chest, depending on whether a suit jacket is worn beneath.
Photographed on a 38" mannequin.

Condition:
In excellent condition, with light wear overall - there is a small area on the lower front where some of the dark yarns are broken (circled) - the lining has scattered marks, spots & fading - a strip of small scuffs & holes as if it was folded inside-out for some time (circled) . Has been thoroughly steamed & brushed prior to listing but a musty storage smell remains.
I have a no returns policy - please check the above measurements and compare to a similar garment of your own before buying - no refund offered for items that don’t fit.
