A super vintage circa 1940s French "Canadienne" mackinaw type double-breasted jacket, made from thick cotton canvas in a lovely reddish-brown 'cachou' colour. It has a generous mouton fur shawl collar, scalloped yokes with leather piped edges at front & back, slash hand warmer pockets & flapped lower pockets similarly piped, decorative cuff tabs, retains the full set of original embossed wooden buttons & has the matching belt (which is so often missing from these) with silver metal slide buckle. It is lined in the upper body with thick sheepskin & quilted rayon at the hips; the sleeves are lined with brown & off-white cotton with elastic in the cuffs.

Condition: In very good condition for a garment of this type, with some overall signs of wear & patina - there are some scattered marks here & there - slight fade & rubbing to the high spots - slight fade & marks at the left front hem corner - some flaking & scuffs to the leather - a small nip out of the piping on the left hand pocket (arrowed) - some bald patches to the collar edge (arrowed) & a few other thin spots to the fur - a tear to the quilted lining at the hem (arrowed) - some rust to the buckle. Has been steamed & brushed prior to listing.
