A characterful, rather shabby vintage 1940s sports jacket, made in South Africa by 'Rex Trueform' from Harris Tweed wool fabric in an unusual zigzag broken stripe weave in shades of olive green, grey & brown, trimmed on the cuffs & elbows with dark brown leather. Single breasted 3-button fastening with broad notch lapels - side vents - quite heavily padded shoulders - fitted waist - rare flapped breast & flapped lower pockets - leather 'football' buttons (probably old replacements) - part lined in the American style with greyish rayon twill with silver grey sleeve linings - 3 inside pockets - 2 nice embroidered labels.

Condition:
In well-used condition, with overall signs of wear & multiple flaws including the following: externally there are scattered snags, small holes & frays (most noticeable are circled) - yellowing to the collar fold - dryness & flaking to the cuff leathers & the left one is coming loose - the elbow patches have been amateurishly sewn & repaired & are loose in places - the buttonholes have been repaired - the lining has a lot of wear, discolouration, holes & fraying, particularly across the neck/shoulder area & behind the lower pockets - the hanging loop is loose & shredded - various ink stains - discolouration & some loose stitching at the armpits - the sleeve liners (perhaps replacements) are a curious patchwork of pieces & have splits, frays & bad repairs down the seams. Has been thoroughly steamed but a faint musty storage smell remains.
