A wonderfully characterful, unusually tall fitting vintage 1940s two-piece suit, bespoke made by an unknown tailor from a beautiful herringbone wool tweed fabric in shades of chestnut brown & pale green with scattered yellow, red, green & off-white flecks, which combine to give an overall browner or greener tone depending on the light. Single-breasted 3 button jacket with medium padded shoulders, broad notch lapels, fitted waist, welted chest & lower flap pockets, leather elbow patches, cuffs with 3 decorative buttons; lined in dark brown rayon twill with off-white sleeve linings. Trousers are extremely high rise, full-cut & wide in the leg, with double inward pleats, belt loops, braces buttons, side slip & 1 rear pockets, button fly, turn-ups. No labels present.

In good condition, with signs of use overall & some repairs:
The jacket has a repair on the right pocket flap - the left sleeve is pieced at the underside elbow - both cuffs have seams running around the edge, either from repair or a blind-hemmed extension; shortening the sleeves slightly would hide this - some wear & fraying to the buttonholes - slight yellowing on the collar fold - the lining has scuffs, snags, seam strain, marks, & wear to the top pocket edges, the sleeve linings have stains, watermarks, some repairs, & have been extended with dark brown fabric. The trousers have a repair to the lower right outside leg - wear & fraying to the pocket edges - the fabric is thinning on the seat, as if from cycling; the camera couldn't really show this - some discolouration, stains & wear to the pocket bags & linings - the back seam is a bit wonky, presumably because the waist has been taken in. Has been thoroughly steamed & brushed prior to listing.
