Vintage Mens 1950s 1960s Harris Tweed Sports Jacket Green Marl 38"
Vintage Mens 1950s 1960s Harris Tweed Sports Jacket Green Marl 38"
A vintage late 1950s to early 1960s Harris Tweed sports jacket, made by 'Hepworths' from 100% pure Scottish wool in a marled mid-green colour - on my screen the close-up of the buttons is most accurate. Single breasted 3-button fastening with medium lapels - centre vent - medium padded shoulders - slightly fitted waist - welted breast & angled lower flapped hand & ticket pockets - leather 'football' buttons - body lined with olive green rayon/acetate with 1 chest & pocket, sleeves lined with ivory. The Harris label is the shield type of the Independent producers (rather than the Orb of the Association), which came into use in 1958 & was prohibited after a court case in about 1962.
Please study the photographs carefully - they form an important part of the description.
Size: Suggested 38 Regular
Photographed on a 38" mannequin.
All measurements are external, taken with the garment laid flat, to be doubled where appropriate for circumference (with approx. metric equivalent):
Jacket Chest - armpit to armpit: 21" (53.3cm)
Shoulder to shoulder: 17 1/2" (44.5cm)
Shoulder to cuff: 24 1/2" (62cm)
Armpit to cuff: 17 1/2" (44.4cm)
Waist: 19 1/2" (49.5cm)
Back length - bottom of collar to hem: 30" (76cm)
Condition:
In very good condition with light wear overall - externally there is a slight overall patina (apparent when looking under the lapels) - a few snags & pulls - a small loop of yarn, perhaps a weaving defect, towards the left front hem (circled) - internally some marks & scuffs to the lining - staining & discolouration at the underarms, with a tear to the left sleeve liner (circled) - some broken stitching at the top of the vent. Has been thoroughly steamed & brushed prior to listing but an underarm smell & some storage mustiness remain.
I have a no returns policy - please check the above measurements and compare to a similar garment of your own before buying - no refund offered for items that don’t fit.
