A vintage 1950s British Army issue 'Coats, Rubberproofed, 1A, Khaki', made in 1953 to a pattern introduced in WW2 & intended primarily for Military Police use. Cut from double-texture rubberised cotton fabric in an easy-fitting, slip on style, single-breasted with fly front & generous 2-way collar, 2 lower pockets with deep flaps, & a long kick vent. Retains the remnants of the original paper label & bears a large date stamp at the neck; this coat is a rare survivor but has suffered through the years.

Size: Marked 17, Suggested Large/Extra Large, to fit about a 42"/44" chest, depending on whether a jacket is worn beneath.

All measurements are external, taken with the garment laid flat, to be doubled where appropriate for circumference (with approx. metric equivalent):
Chest - armpit to armpit: 26" (66cm)

Condition:
In poor condition overall - the fabric has stiffened with age (a common problem with vintage double texture garments, as the adhesives used degrade), rendering the coat rather crunchy & crusty in places; heat or steam will soften it but the hardness returns as it cools - the glue is failing around the collar stand at the neck back & some other areas have slightly delaminated - there are numerous marks & stains - some worn & frayed areas, especially around the neck/collar fold & hem - a more extensive fray & a tear by the left side seam at the hem - some of the internal seam tapes are coming loose - the internal rubber hem tape is crinkly, loose & perished in places - the paper label is loose. The garment has a rubbery smell. Please look at all the photos to be sure this is right for you...
