A superb vintage 1950s overcoat, made in 1954 by 'Montague Burton' from a thick & slightly fleecy wool Prince of Wales or glen plaid cloth in shades of brown with a subtle reddish overcheck. It is 6-button double-breasted with broad lapels, has quite heavily padded shoulders, cuffs with 4 decorative buttons, 2 flapped lower pockets with brushed cotton linings, & a belt with a leather covered buckle; the buttons are a very pleasing marbled early plastic. Fully lined with brown rayon fabric, with an inside breast pocket which retains the dated paper cutter label, so often missing from coats such as this which are stylistically little different to those made in the 1940s.

Size: Suggested Large/Extra Large, Long Fitting - to fit about a 42"/44" chest, depending on whether a suit jacket is worn beneath.

Condition:
In very good to excellent condition with minor wear overall - there are scattered areas of surface moth nibbling to the nap, not very apparent when worn, most noticeably on the right sleeve, and on the left skirt front towards the side seam & near the hem (circled in close ups) - a moth nip by the edge of the kick vent (circled) - 2 small holes on the hem of the inside left skirt facing, exposing the white inner hem tape (circled) . Has been thoroughly steamed & brushed prior to listing.
