A great looking vintage mid 1950s plus fours suit made by 'Burton' from Harris Tweed fabric in a herringbone weave of ecru & light brown giving an overall beige tone. Single-breasted 3-button jacket with quite heavily padded shoulders, notch lapels, fitted waist, centre vent, welted chest & flapped lower pockets, cuffs with 3 decorative buttons; fully lined in pinky-beige rayon twill with ivory sleeve linings. Plus fours are full-cut & wide in the leg in a very '30s or '40s style, have double inward pleats, flapped front cash, side slip & button rear pockets, button fly, brace buttons, tunnel belt loops & elasticated cuffs. The Harris label bears the 'Applied in accordance' text which I believe came into use in about 1954.

Condition:
In good condition overall, with general signs of wear & some flaws - the jacket has yellowing at the collar fold - some wear & thinning around the cuff edges, especially the left where there is also a small hole on the inner face (arrowed) - the lining has staining at the armpits, some watermarks, a few snags, a bit of open seam in the right sleeve lining, a hole in the left sleeve lining near the cuff, the label is loose. The trousers have a faint patch of yellowing & 2 small holes near the crotch - a few other small snags - the elastic has perished - the linings & pocket bags are stained & discoloured, there is a hole in right pocket bag, 1 brace button is missing. Has been thoroughly steamed & brushed prior to listing.
