An unusual vintage 1950s 2-piece country suit, made by rural tailors 'Smith & Hobbs' of Woodmancote from a fairly heavyweight 'Alsport' tweed fabric in a marled, variegated dark olive green colour with burnt orange windowpane overchecks. Single-breasted 3 button jacket with medium padded shoulders, rearward sloping shoulder seams, notch lapels, fitted waist, centre vent, rare flapped chest & angled lower flapped hand & ticket pockets, cuffs with 3 decorative buttons; fully lined in dark olive rayon with striped ivory sleeve linings. Trousers are quite full cut & fairly wide in the leg, with side waist tab adjusters with chrome locking buckles, braces buttons, side slip, buttoned front cash & 1 rear pocket with scalloped flap, button fly, & turn-ups.

Condition: In good, slightly characterful condition overall, with signs of use & some flaws: - there are a number of small repairs scattered over both pieces; the most apparent are circled - a few other nips & plucks to the surface - the jacket centre button is a replacement - there is a split in the upper right sleeve lining & watermarks, stains & holes in the right cuff lining - the trousers appear to have been remodelled at some point; there is a faint crease line on the legs where the seams previously were & on the turn-ups where the hems originally were. Has been thoroughly steamed & brushed prior to listing but not cleaned - the suit has a slightly musty storage smell.
