Vintage Mens 1950s Gaunson Harris Tweed Sports Jacket Grey Brown 44"
A vintage later 1950s Harris Tweed sports jacket, London Tailored by 'Gaunson' in the classic mini check or grid weave in a less-usual colour way of shades of brown, grey & natural. Single breasted 3-button fastening with notch lapels - single vent - medium padded shoulders - fitted waist - welted breast & lower flapped pockets - brown leather 'football' buttons - fully lined with grey rayon twill with 1 chest pocket, sleeves lined with ivory acetate. Carries the 'Independent Harris Tweed Producers' label which was used by the non-association weavers from about 1958-1961.

All measurements are external, taken with the garment laid flat, to be doubled where appropriate for circumference (with approx. metric equivalent):
Jacket Chest - armpit to armpit: 24" (61cm)
Shoulder to shoulder: 20" (51cm)
Shoulder to cuff: 24 1/2" (62cm)
Armpit to cuff: 17" (43cm)
Waist: 23" (58.4cm)
Back length - bottom of collar to hem: 30" (76cm)
Condition:
In very good to excellent condition, with light wear overall - there is a tiny, barely visible repair to the right shoulder blade & another to the top of the left shoulder (arrowed) & a few tiny surface nips which the camera couldn't see - slight yellowing to the collar fold - a few faint brown marks, mainly to the inside facing - the lining has some surface wear, scuffs & discolouration - some seam strain, small holes & a seam split near the left armpit (arrowed). Has been thoroughly steamed & brushed prior to listing.
