A rather shabby vintage 1950s Harris Tweed sports jacket fitted with 'Mersley' one piece collar, made from 100% pure wool in a houndstooth or Shepherd check weave in shades of brown, blue, green & beige/natural. Single breasted 3-button fastening with notch lapels - centre vent - medium padded shoulders - fitted waist - welted breast & lower flapped pockets - plastic buttons - body fully lined with olive green acetate with 1 chest pocket, sleeves lined with ivory acetate. The Harris label bears the 'Applied in accordance' text which I believe came into use in about 1954.

All measurements are external, taken with the garment laid flat, to be doubled where appropriate for circumference (with approx. metric equivalent):
Jacket Chest - armpit to armpit: 21" (53cm)

Condition:
In poor condition, with signs of use & flaws overall - externally a general surface wear to the fabric - numerous scattered holes & frays, especially on the collar back & shoulders, the most apparent are circled in close ups - an interesting darned patch between the bottom buttons - a few faint marks - one cuff button missing - the lining has various marks, stains & holes, some loose stitching at the vent & a large tear by the hem. Has been thoroughly steamed & brushed but some storage mustiness remains.
