Vintage Mens 1950s Tweed Kilt Jacket & Waistcoat Set Gun Club Check Wool Tailored Traditional Scottish Sports Coat 40"
A vintage late 1950s Braemar or Crail style kilt jacket & waistcoat from 'The Highland Homespun Company' in a Gun Club type of checked or plaid medium-weight wool tweed in greens, browns & red on a sandy background. The jacket has a 2 button fastening with medium lapels - padded shoulders with plaited epaulettes - scalloped cuff panels - fitted waist - twin side vents - welted chest & scalloped flapped lower pockets - double rows of top stitching to give swelled edges; body lined with goldy-beige rayon fabric with 1 chest & 1 ticket pocket, sleeves lined with ivory striped fabric. Waistcoat with 2 welted chest & 2 flapped lower pockets, lined & backed to match the jacket, fitted with prong buckle backstrap. Both pieces are fitted with real stag horn buttons, & the jacket has a beautiful pictorial label. Made intentionally short & cut away at the front for wear with kilt & sporran, this type of Highland jacket can also be seen in period photos worn with plus fours & breeches.
NB Headgear not included.
Please study the photographs carefully - they form an important part of the description.

Shoulder to cuff: 25" (63.5cm)
Armpit to cuff: 16 1/4" (41cm)
Waist: 20" (51cm)

Shoulder to shoulder: 13 1/2" (34.3cm)
Length - back of neck to front point: 26" (66cm)
Condition:
In very good to excellent condition with light wear overall - the jacket sleeves have been shortened at some point as the cuff panels usually have 3 points; it feels like the fabric is still inside to lengthen them if desired but a blind hem may be needed - there is slight yellowing to the collar fold - scuffs, stains, watermarks & some snags to the lining. The waistcoat has stains & marks on the back, especially on the right shoulder - some watermarks & discolouration to the lining. Has been thoroughly steamed & brushed prior to listing but not cleaned - a slightly musty storage aroma remains.
I have a no returns policy - please check the above measurements and compare to a similar garment of your own before buying - no refund offered for items that don’t fit.
