A superb vintage 1960s three-piece country suit, bespoke tailored in 1961 by 'James Neal Ltd.' of Cambridge from a fairly heavy-weight wool birdseye tweed in a mix of green, khaki, brown & natural with red overchecks. Single-breasted 3 button jacket with quite heavily padded shoulders, notch lapels, side vents, welted chest & lower flap pockets, gauntlet cuffs with 2 working of 4 buttons; fully lined in brownish rayon twill with off-white checked sleeve linings, 1 inside chest pocket. Waistcoat with 6 buttons, 4 pockets, rear prong buckle adjuster strap, backed & lined to match the jacket. Trousers are fairly full cut & wide in the leg, with double inward pleats, side clamp buckle adjuster tabs, braces buttons marked 'J.Chester, Newmarket', side slip pockets, button fly with 'James Neal' buttons, turn-ups. Jacket & waistcoat have tailor's labels; Colonel G. T. Hurrell served in the 17th/21st Lancers & was subsequently Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire.

Condition:
In very good to excellent condition with light wear & a few scattered marks overall - the jacket has some yellowing to the collar fold, the lining has some scuffs & marks, the back & side seams have been let out, leaving marks along the original stitch lines - the waistcoat has been let out at the sides, leaving stitch marks on the original line, the lining has some marks & stains - the trousers have a faint patch of yellowing at the crotch, a small hole at the upper left inside leg (arrowed), some marks & wear to the linings & pocket bags, staining to the fly lining, the waist has been let out & subsequently taken in a bit, leaving stitch marks & some tiny holes on the original line, a small V of extra fabric inserted in the curtain lining. Has been thoroughly steamed & brushed prior to listing - a dry clean would help freshen up after long storage.
