A wonderful time worn vintage 1930s/1940s European work jacket which has clearly been converted from another garment, as evidenced by the carefully sewn up buttonholes & piecing at the cuffs. Made from a firm, medium-weight wool fabric in an earthy brown colour, it has double-breasted 4x2 fastening with broad lapels, nice top-stitching on the under-collar, heavily padded shoulders, 2 flapped lower pockets, half-belt & centre vent at the back. Lined in gingery brown cotton with soft, loose-weave brown wool sleeve liners; the hand pocket bags are made from the same fabric.

Condition:
In characterful, well-used condition with evident wear & patina throughout - externally, a number of small holes, scuffs, snags, & frayed edges scattered overall - an L-shaped repair near the right hand pocket - a small popped section on the left shoulder seam - the back belt is coming away slightly at the right end - the pocket bags have wear & holes - internally, light wear & some small tears to the lining - the right sleeve lining is loose at the pit & has some holes at the head - both sleeve liners have holes & fraying at the cuffs. Has been carefully hand washed, thoroughly steamed & brushed prior to listing.
