A superb vintage 1940s dress, made in a very unusual & interesting cut from a floppy black satin-backed rayon crepe fabric. The front of the dress is made in 2 halves (i.e. there is no waist seam), with front yoke slashes embellished with rouleau loops & gathers beneath which become stitched-down pleats below the waist edged with further rouleau loops with bows at the bottom; flared panels are inserted below these to create the skirt shaping. It has a small pointed collar, short sleeves with pleated, supported heads, & a row of self-covered buttons down the front which open at the top only; the back has a waist seam, with a half belt with oval plastic buckle attached at the sides, & there is a side opening with silver metal 'Wico - Made in Czechoslovakia' zip with fancy art deco puller. There is the remains of a cut off label at the neck back.

Condition: In very good condition overall - there is a small darn to the skirt back near the left side seam - a group of pinholes, tiny snags & a small repair just above the left yoke slash, probably the result of attaching a corsage - some skipped stitching down the side of the zip. Has been carefully hand washed & steamed prior to listing
